Apple could soon enter into the location-based interest matching and social networking market. The patent, which was filed in December 2009, describes a scenario where two individuals can presumably meet based on their common interests or experiences.
Titled “Ad-hoc Networking based on Content and Location” the patent application talks about a system that would allow iPhone devices in close proximity to discover a matching friend, or your next wife or your next date or husband.
Common interests and experiences of two or more users located close to each other can be identified from content, including automatically created usage data of the mobile devices. Usage data of a mobile device can be created based on activities performed on the mobile device (e.g., songs downloaded), a trajectory of the mobile device (e.g., places traveled), or other public data available from the mobile device (e.g., pictures shared).
“When two strangers meet, it may take a long and awkward conversation to discover their common interests or experiences,” Apple writes.
This integrated social networking concept is pretty much novel but powerful. Just tell your iPhone that you are ready for date or interested in meeting new people that are nearby. When the mode is ‘ON’ multiple requests are received and match score is then calculated based on certain number of socio-parameters (listed under patent Application ID 20110142016). The notification is then sent indicating that a social networking opportunity exists within the social-networking distance.
If he or she accepts your invite you are already a step ahead and need not discuss about the places you both visited, songs you listened, music genre you follow, movies you’ve watched, people you both know, et cetera. But I wonder when you are already acquainted with all this stuff, then what will you discuss on your first date? But yes, this could be a problem solver for all those who lack courage in initiating a date.
NYPost recently interviewed Steve Jobs’ biological father. Steve Jobs, ex-CEO of Apple, is the biological son of an Arab American Abdulfattah John Jandali who was born in Homs, Syria, and studied at the American University of Beirut. At the age of 80, Abdulfattah John Jandali, is an executive vice president of a Reno casino and doesn’t believe in retirement. Here are some of the excerpts:
But much to his regret, they have one additional thing in common: Each is unwilling to speak with the other.
“This might sound strange, though, but I am not prepared, even if either of us was on our deathbeds, to pick up the phone to call him,” Jandali said.
“Steve will have to do that, as the Syrian pride in me does not want him ever to think I am after his fortune,” he said.
For all his accomplishments, the Syrian immigrant says he is overcome with guilt over his treatment of Jobs, 56, and given his son’s health woes and decision this week to step down as Apple CEO, fears time is running out.
“Now I just live in hope that, before it is too late, he will reach out to me, because even to have just one coffee with him just once would make me a very happy man,” he said.
Jandali learned only in recent years that the son his ex-wife gave up for adoption 56 years ago grew up to be the Edison of his age.
“I’d be lying if I said it doesn’t sadden me to have not been part of my son’s incredible journey,” he said. “What father wouldn’t think that? And I would think that even if he was not the head of a hugely successful company.”
In 1955, Jandali’s girlfriend Joanne Simpson became pregnant, and though he wanted to marry her, he says her family would not allow it.
“I was very much in love with Joanne,” he said. “But sadly, her father was a tyrant, and forbade her to marry me, as I was from Syria. And so she told me she wanted to give the baby up for adoption.”
The pair were living in Wisconsin back then, he said.
“Without telling me, Joanne upped and left to move to San Francisco to have the baby without anyone knowing, including me,” he said.”She did not want to bring shame onto the family and thought this was the best for everyone.”
Jandali would have preferred to keep the baby, but he respected her wishes, he said.
“I honestly do not know to this day if Steve is aware of the fact that had it been my choice, I would have loved to have kept him,” he said.
“I think after we got back together, Joanne had second thoughts about adoption, but by then, there was nothing we could do about it.”
Joanne’s dad died just a few months after they gave their son up for adoption, and she agreed to marry John.
“If we had just held off for a few months, then we would have been able to raise Steve as our own, but sadly, that was not the case,” Jandali said. “We often spoke of our son and how we both wished he was with us, especially when Joanne gave birth to Steve’s sister, Mona. But nothing to do with Joanne and I was ever meant to be.”
He took the family to Syria, but Simpson was unhappy there and left with Mona, who was 4 at the time, to return to the States.
While Jandali has never phoned his missing son, he has on several occasions sent him e-mails on his birthday.
“I can’t remember exactly what I wrote in them,” he said. “But I know they were very short and to the point. I would wish him ‘Happy Birthday’ and continued good health, and sign them with my name, and not ‘dad.’ ”
He did it out of respect for the adoptive parents, he said.
“Because I really am not his dad. Mr. and Mrs. Jobs are, as they raised him. And I don’t want to take their place. I just would like to get to know this amazing man I helped in a very small way to produce.”
Despite calling himself a “computer dunce,” he owns a Mac computer, iPhone and iPad, desperate to support his son in some small way.
“I honestly look at these things and cannot believe Steve created them,” he said.
Automator in OS X 10.7 Lion is much improved now and lets you create floating desktop webapps using any specified URL using a “website popup” feature. You can even set a custom size, iPhone size, iPad size and a user agent. Save them as “apps”, and this can later be opened via Lion’s Launchpad.

Apple today has released the next generation OS X Mountain Lion to registered developers bringing over 100 new features such as Messages, Notes, Reminders, GameCenter, NotificationCenter, Twitter integration, and AirPlay Mirroring.
The first developer preview of OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion can only be downloaded by Mac Developer Program members. However, a public launch is scheduled for late this summer through the Mac App Store.
The developer preview of Mac OS X Mountain Lion features the all new Messages app replacing conventional iChat. The new message app lets you send unlimited messages, videos, and high resolution photos directly from your Mac to another Mac or iOS device like iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. Messages will continue to support AIM, Jabber, Yahoo! Messenger and Google Talk, however.

In the developer preview of OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, Apple has introduced Gatekeeper, a revolutionary security feature that gives you complete control over what apps are installed on your Mac or from which sources apps may be installed – keeping you safe from malicious software attack. It will make your Mac safer than ever.
OS X Mountain Lion is tightly integrated with iCloud which automatically configure Mail, FaceTime, and Find My Mac, and syncs the documents across all Apple devices, so documents are always up to date. Mountain lion build also introduces ‘AirPlay Mirroring’, allowing you to wirelessly send a 720p video stream from your Mac to an HDTV using Apple TV.
Finally, Apple brings substantial improvements for many popular Chinese services. Baidu, the leading Chinese search provider, is a built-in option in Safari. Integration with Chinese email and video hosting sites (Youku and Tudou) as well as the Sina weibo microblogging service is also included.
According to Nikkei Business, Apple is prepping to launch new iPhone 5 and iPad 3 models with 4G LTE connectivity next year. The anonymous sources known to Apple product plans stated that LTE based iPad 3 will launch on NTT DoCoMo Japan during the summer next year, and an LTE-enabled iPhone 5 in the fall.
Apple CEO Tim Cook reportedly held a low profile meeting with NTT DoCoMo president Kiyoyuki Tsujimura and VP Takashi Yamada earlier this month to materialize a deal and to make sure that the next generation iPhone and iPad models are compatible on their network.

Starting today, Apple has begun accepting pre-orders for unlocked iPhone 4S in the US Online Apple Store for which you pay more upfront without locking yourself in a particular carrier contract for the next two years. The preorders list a 1 to 2-week shipping time and are available for $649, $749 and $849 for the 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB model respectively, in both white and black color scheme.
The unlocked iPhone includes all the features of iPhone but without a contract commitment. You can activate and use it on the supported GSM wireless network of your choice, such as AT&T in the United States.* The unlocked iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S will not work with CDMA-based carriers such as Verizon Wireless or Sprint.
Frequent business travelers who are hopping between countries, or those who don’t want to be locked into a lengthy carrier contract can proceed and pre-order to buy the unlocked iPhone 4S. The unlocked version of iPhone 4S will not work on either Sprint or Verizon’s network since both of them uses the CDMA network.
I have already pre-ordered and the confirmation email is showing a delivery date of between November 28 – December 5. What about yours?
Apple initially planned to introduce iPhone 5 this year, but deferred its launch and finally announced the iPhone 4S after Steve objection, reports Business Insider, who was able to snag some information from an anonymous source in Apple’s upstream supply chain who has claimed to have had hands-on access to an iPhone 5 prototype. He even offered some details on the iPhone 5 specifications.
We’ve been told this by an industry source who has been right about future Apple products in the past.
We have not been able to verify what he told us with a second source. So we’re still treating these details as rumors. You should probably still read this post with a nice fat dose of salt.
iPhone 5 will reportedly sport 4-inch display screen with “Flatter” form factor, an elongated capacitive home button for swiping across the home button to quickly switch between multitasking apps, faster chip but have poor battery life, 10-megapixel rear camera and an aluminum back. He added that Apple is exploring its “liquid metal” technology to make colored iPhones.

The sources further claimed that Steve Jobs objected about having the larger display screen on iPhone 5 because that would result in fragmentation of the iOS ecosystem.
Lending a little bit of credence to this particular rumor is the fact that the major news media outlet BI has reported it, which could have close ties with sources acquainted with Apple product plans. Most of this stuff seems plausible, however.
One of the Sprint employees was kind enough to snap and slip a shot as solid evidence with a note about SIM Locking. The iPhone locking activity is reported to begin in background during the activation process without the knowledge of customers.
Starting tomorrow, all iPhone 4S devices will have the SIM locked. The locking occurs during the activation process and is invisible to the customer (no extra action is needed by customer or rep).
The memo additionally notes that “this SIM lock update will not impact any current iPhone 4S customers (activated prior to 11/11/11).” Which means that those who purchased and activated iPhone 4S before November 11th will be able to continue their unlocked SIM slot. New customers will be tied to Sprint Worldwide for international services, however.
The unlocked iPhone 4S is the best choice, if you prefer to use a local carrier when traveling abroad since it avoids international roaming fees. Meanwhile, Apple has already stated that unlocked iPhone 4S will arrive without a micro-SIM card sometimes in November in USA. Frequent business travelers who are hopping between countries, or those who don’t want to be locked into a lengthy carrier contract can wait till then to buy the unlocked iPhone 4S.
